What is SA legal requirements to apply for handgun competency and licensing?

Good day Mr. Jennings,
To apply for handgun competency and subsequently obtain a handgun license in South Africa, the following steps are required:
1. Completion of accredited proficiency training,
2. Submission of a SAPS 517 competency application to SAPS along with supporting documentation, a determination of being deemed “fit and proper” under the Firearms Control Act (FCA), and finally,
3. Submit to SAPS the SAPS 271 license application for the firearm.
